Global crisis of 1929 (1308) affected the economies of many countries, however, its effect on the economy of the Third World countries that are mostly producing the export raw materials was more than the one in industrial advanced countries. In 1929, Iran operated as the producer of raw material for European countries due to inefficient economic structure, traditional economy, as well as the lack of internal advanced industry. One of the main export raw materials was opium, the income of which was regarded important for the economy. Any trouble or obstruction in the export of it was problematic for the state so that they have to seek for further solution.
Using analytical methodology and relying mainly on unpublished documents, papers, and media of Pahlavi period, the attempt here is to study the impact of global crisis of 1929 on opium trade in Iran and state provision in response to this huge global crisis. The result indicated the influence of the economic developments of foreign markets on the related economic and the periphery in Iran. In other words, Iran underwent large losses even with the presence of marginal economy since opium was one of the most important export commodities in 1929; therefore crisis could be followed by reduction in price as well as export in world markets and as the result a shortfall in the revenues from opium export for the economy of Iran.
