Abstract
Qanat is a hydraulic structure that has been used in arid and semi arid zones of Iran due to surface water scarcity since ancient times. Qanat is not only a technology but it is also a culture originator which has played an important role in Iran especially in its central plateau in the course of history. Endowment is an act of charity that dates back to long ago in Iran and is a precious act among the followers of all religions. Endowment institution is one of the most obvious manifests of benignity and cooperation which is the origin of scientific, cultural, economical and social services.
This research investigates the interaction between society and Qanat; in this paper, also the role of endowment institution in survival and constant exploitation of Qanat is analyzed based on the endowed Qanats of Seyed Rokn Al-Din.
