Abstract

Haft Qalam's tombstone belongs to Prince Gharib Mirza, who died in 902 AH. The engraving of this work has been carried out for seven years in seven stages. At first, Master Shamsuddin modified it in the form of a box, and then it was modified by smoothing method, and in the third stage, he emptied the inside of the chamber, and in the other three pens, he decorated the stone with plant and slime motifs. In the last stage, he wrote, smoothed and sanded it. The aim of the research is to identify the symbolic motifs of plants and the mouth of a tortoise in this exquisite tombstone belonging to the Herat period, which was based on the documentation of the works of artists Shamsuddin Heravi and Kamaluddin Behzad. In this research, it is tried to investigate the symbolic aspect and the connection to the early death of Prince Gharib Mirza. The question of the research is as follows, what is the symbolic aspect of the plant motif and the mouth of Torpedo in Haft Qalam in the tomb of Prince Gharib Mirza and what are its characteristics? The research method is qualitative and descriptive-analytical, the statistical population of the research is the tombstone of Prince Gharib Mirza. Recently, it has been concluded that the numerous motifs of the mouth of Torghada and its petals are symbolic and the abundant space and numerous petals refer to the owner of the tomb and his death at a young age.
