Abstract
The safavid had to have relationships with their neighbors during their reign, but these relationships were not in a friendly way because of the political and religious differences between two sides. The Safavid followed military method in order to survive in policy, defend from geographical borders, and continue the religious approach. In addition to these, they followed on active method in diplomatic arena. Letters, left from Safavid period, indicant the activity in Safavids' diplomatic arenas.
The purpose of this writing is to achieve some of the applied principles of foreign relationships in Safavid period, relying on political text of correspondence. The hypothesis of the research is based on this viewpoint that Safavid had interactions with their neighbors, and although they observed and emphasized on some fixed principles, meanwhile used a flexible method. The result of this research shows that the Safavid government considered an effective policy in diplomatic arena. The amount of posted letters to different arenas confirms this attitude. Yet, deep thinking about the text of the letters represents the existence of sustainability approach and principles in foreign relations. While, according to the prevailing condition of the relationship between two sides, we can see a kind of flexibility in political literature of letters that shows the interest and purposes of safavid.
