During The reign of Pahlavi II, there existed a diversity of information and security (intelligence) offices in Iran. These institutions were mostly the result of Shah᾿s suspicion of his own officials and governmental institutions, rather than the need to maintain the affairs of the nation. Imperial inspection office was an important institution in this reared which began its work in Mehr 1337 and its responsibility was to keep the Shah informed of the country's various places and their situations or activities. This institution which was a consequence of Mordad 28th Coup in 1332, displayed the corruption and the internal inefficiency of the Pahlavi regime. It had a range of infinite duties and its head were (Yazadanpanah and Fardoust) two of Shah᾿s trustees. The present study uses an analytic approach and relies on the library and documentary sources to deal with the condition of the country after the coup and the reasons for the springing up of such institutions. It intends to answer the following questions: why did the Imperial inspection office appear? and what conditions led to the emergence of this office? this paper reveals the inefficiency of the Pahlavi regime and its desire to have control over all aspects of life in the country and the conditions of the turbulent 1330᾿s. It also shows the inefficiency of the inspection office in this period.
