Abstract

Ādurbādagān has been one of the important religious and political centers during history of Iran, particularly in ancient era. Following the rise of Sasanian religious government to power, Ādurbādagān along to Parsa became an important religious center as Sasanian kings walking whole the way to Ādurbādagān for coronation ceremony and to visit Ādur Gušnaspa fire temple during war time, hardship, making decisive decision or as pilgrimage. In other word, locating Ādur Gušnaspa fire temple in Ādurbādagān made this place along the Parsa as one of the most important religious bases and the symbol of unification between religion and state during Sasanian period. However, as one of three important fire temples, Ādur Gušnasp had located in Ādurbādagān which had changed the position of this land to a sacred place and pilgrimage for kings and clergies. Thus in this paper it has been tried, based on evidence and historical documents and by using historical methodology research, to examine the religious position of Ādurbādagān during the Sasanian period.
